Here is an update from last night's meeting about the Seattle Police Department's plans for the anticipated July 4 crush.
Officer Mark Wong says there will be temporary no-parking zones along the following streets on the 4th of July:
Eastlake Avenue East, both sides, East Newton Street to East Hamlin Street
Eastlake Avenue East, east side (northbound curb lane), East Hamlin Street to Harvard Avenue East
East Lynn Street, both sides, Eastlake Avenue East to Boylston Avenue East
East Newton Street, both sides, Fairview Avenue East to Eastlake Avenue East
Signs announcing these closures won't go up until a day or two before the 4th.
Also, starting around 6 to 6:30 p.m. on July 4, officers will begin staffing "fixed traffic posts" around Eastlake, letting only residents and guests with off-street parking arrangments into the area:
- West of Eastlake from Fuhrman Avenue East to the north, and East Newton Street to the south.
- North on Yale from Eastlake on the north side of Azteca
- North at Fairview Avenue East/East Newton Street.
Be forewarned about these no-parking areas. Don't go out of town and leave your vehicle on one of these streets or you will be towed.
